Those settings do not enable the icon either. I obtained a DVD with Vista
including SP1, which then allowed me to perform a system Upgrade. This
brought everything back to a clean SP1 install, which resolved the problem.

YES, JW, it's greyed out... am in same situation..... I have two
identical laptops, one has power icon just fine...other does NOT show
the icon, it's greyed out and CANNOT be checked in any way... have not
figured out how to fix it as yet.
