Help I have a Toshiba M100 with Windows Vista Home Basic, I recently updated my BIOS and then my windows sound scheme doesn't play anymore even if the "play sound scheme on startup" is enabled.
No startup sounds, No internet explorer sound I don't hear audio from youtube itunes etc but I can play music files using media player or other media players.
I already installed audio driver updates and still nothing happens.

Enter the BIOS setup on post to check that integrated audio is enabled or it may say 'auto' when you flash a BIOS when it is first used it goes to default on everything, usually you should go into the setup straight after to make sure the settings are as you want them, I would think for that BIOS the onboard audio is set to disabled for some reason, so that's where I would start.

There is no setting in bios for integrated audio.
I just checked the audio levels in the sound panel and I didn't find any levels for wave, by the way its realtek high definition audio.
Even if I changed the default sound scheme and click on the test button I don't hear anything.
Is it possible that the missing wave volume level is the cause?
Do I need to reinstall the driver? How do I update it properly?

In control panel click on 'sounds' not the realtek sound manager and from there you can choose what sliders are shown by ticking boxes, unless every sound your machine makes is a wav file, which it certainly is not, then only some sounds would be missing,

I cannot believe there is no audio control setting in the BIOS, (editted to add..sorry I can believe now as I have been through the screens and indeed there isn't one) There are settings for just about all other hardware onboard but not audio !!

Done that too, I have enabled all sliders to their maximum values still no windows sound.
here is the screenshot of the windows sound panel, whenever I click on the "Test" button its supposed to changed to "Stop" but it never did.

on the speaker property levels - is there really no wave levels?

How do you properly update sound card drivers?

I don't know if it will make any difference but that screen shot shows that the mic channel is open it should have a little red circle with a slash in it to indicate it's disabled, could be that with it enabled the volume is being held off to prevent feedback. Try disabling\muting the mic and any other inouts you're not actively using.

Finally I found a fix my windows system sounds and web browser audio problem.
I've been googling so much about vista audio problems apparently I was on the wrong keyword search,
when I try "windows system sound problem" it brought me to this page:
"Fix No Windows System Sound and Audio Problems"

Hope this helps others who have the same problem.

On my PC the youtube audio disappears together with all typical windows-sounds after installing and removing QuickTime... When I do a soundcheck the speakers go fine, the 3D is fine but no MIDI-sounds. I have already updated Flash, the Realtek HD Audio driver and I did enquire at the store where I bought my Windows Vista PC... but the boy kept staring at me like a frozen big-eyed statue only saying he had never heard of a problem like this.

So what's next to bring my Youtube back into audio (videos are fine)

Tx for all info !
