| | | | Hi,
I??ve been running Windows Vista Ultimate that I activated long before and
was running perfectly! But today, I downloaded the vista SP1 and I see on the
system property that I need to activate windows within 15 days! I tried to
activate it and I have a message showing: " a probem occured when windows
tried to activate. Error code 0xC004E003."
Does someone understand that and can offer a solution?
Thanks in advance,
Heartwill

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:
1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3. Select your Country.
4. Follow the instructions for phone activation (no charge).
5. Once completed, restart your computer.

Tired of this crap? Check out Ubuntu at www.ubuntu.com No activation, no
becoming "genuine" and it's FREE.

And the reason paying customers should have to take the time to grovel
to MS after not changing *any* hardware is? Faulty WPA program, per chance?

I've done Ubuntu. Very nice! Especially if you have a few days to spend
on getting your DVD burner to work, finding out how to hook up your mp3
player, purchase expensive proprietary drivers to be able to get you
wireless card to work without having to open a terminal. And not to
mention all the crap I had to go through to get my Blackberry synced.
I used to enjoy getting stuff to work even if it's hard. These days I
just can be bothered. And then there's the fact that I actually think
Vista is a very good piece of OS if you hardware can deal with it. Mine
can.
I have to admit that I still keep Ubuntu on a partition. Have been
running Linux since 1998 on and off (lately mostly off) But great to
have for when I get in "tinker mode". I can play with Ubuntu instead of
modding my mobile phone, or take it apart... For works it's Vista.

Hi Heartwill,
The error code just means that you will need to do a phone activation.
This tutorial will show you how to if needed.

Mind, an LG, worked out of the box using Brasero.
I don't use any of the above so I can't comment.
Have you updated to Hardy Heron? It's an immense improvement over Gutsy.

Sadly, hari, it is just the way activation works in Vista. Even though you
have a retail pack, you still have to go through the telephone activation
when you re-install. I have found that the easiest way around the problem is
to set up Vista how you like it and then 'image' the hard drive using
something like Acronis True Image. If you have any problems you can then
always re-image the drive and activation will remain intact.
With XP so long as the software had been on your PC for 120 day without
being re-installed you could activate over the internet, but I'm not sure
whether this is still the case with Vista.
