| Hello at all
I have installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition and I have got a Western Digital External HDD 320 GB. I have a small problem with it......when I boot up vista with the HDD connected to the USB port the boot time is too long.....at the beginning I thought that it was a HDD problem but there seems to be no problem with the HDD bcpz it boots up fine in XP and Linux.....
Can anyone help me fix this problem please?
Cheers,
Santosh |

| That happens just because of the time it takes the drive to be polled and handed over to the OS which then sets drive letters, even a fast USB 2 drive is considerably slower than a drive on an ATA line, I would simply suggest not having the drive turned on when booting, but turn it on when you need it, or after the desktop arrives if you need it straight off.

| Typically with my USB 250GB SATA external it doesn't really matter if I have it on while booting or afterwards, it may depend on the speed of your system though.
