I am new to vista as well as these forums and just had a quick question maybe someone could link me if theres already a topic but which startup programs and background processes are unnecessary? In order words which can I disable?

You may not be aware of the guy called 'black viper' whose configuration specs for XP became the indisputed ones to follow for such things as non required services and the like, however if you hadn't you did now and the good news is he is already working on the same stuff for Vista which having had a look through I highly recommend as your first and probably last base for such knowledge.
