Vista is more efficient with it's memory use, even if that statement is
contradictory. Ther are a number of factors that can cause this, not the
least of which is that Vista attempts to "learn" how you use your
computer, and pre-loads some of your most often used applications into
memory to boost loading times.
But this should not be a factor in determining whether or not an
application can be installed. How much fre disk space do you have?
You are using Vista x64, which no longer supports the ancient 16-Bit
subsystem. Perhaps you cannot install some applications because they are
using a 16-Bit installer? Could you furnish aAdditional details as to
exactly what applications you are trying to install, and what the error
messages (if any) are?

Cut the crap! Vista does use lots and lots of memory just because it has
1000 percent more CRAP loaded in the memory
for the OS itself, like dlls, running services and processes.
THIS IS NOT the memory caching of programs I am talking about. This is only
what vista uses for Vista.....
If you want to see some real caching of programs install ubuntu and add the
process viewer to the panel.
There you will see how a seriously made OS, can use little resources for
itself and use the cache effectively
In contrast with the lies spewed by Vista boys... like this Dzomlija, vista
handles memory like a PIG WITH LIPSTICK!
Funny that in order to run vista well you need more ram than a 32 bit OS can
address... the only way for vista to perform
a little better is to install 8+ gigs and use the 64 bit version.
Other than that, windowsXP and windows2k and MacOSX and Ubuntu runs circles
around vista-crapista...
what a lame excuse for an operating system!
Take a look at how well MACs handle memory here

Vista is pathetic .... it's a joke! Thank god MS is hurrying up to replace
the darn thing!
And people claiming how good vista is just prove my rule of thumb:
"If you like vista you are stupid T"

By design Vista, like XP, finds as much use for the available physical
memory as it can. Caching, indexing, etc., will all occupy available space.
This is intentional, and memory for these low priority processes will be
released as needed for higher priority program and data needs. Unused memory
is wasted memory, you want it to be doing this, otherwise it's like
furniture that you buy and never sit on - looks good, but not very
functional and just occupying space (and your money).

this is incorrect.
Vista and XP do not use all the available ram ...
Most of the time its half empty if you have 2 gigs of ram... in sheer
contrast take a look
at how ubuntu uses ram...
There you can see how great memory management linux can do...
while even in 2007 (and 2008 with sp1) with vista MS failed to deliver a
good product
(in fact MS delivered a record worst product of the century)
it's a shame that the software giant is being beaten by a bunch of worldwide
amateurs making linux

I've noticed every time anybody makes an accurate observation about
Vista, Frank goes nuts. Very revealing because that confirms Vista is
flawed. You wouldn't have to defend a truly good OS, it would speak
for itself and anyone being critical of it would look dumb.
The reverse happens here with everybody's favorite putz, the village
idiot Frank having another hissy fit every time anybody is even a
little critical of Vista proving once again Frank is nothing more than
a out of his mind buffoon.
