I googled searched this in my Smart Phone "My Touch".

After reading through all the insight, I decided on the opening in Safe mode and the closing all start up programs. I found one program called "Sservice" which was loaded the same time I clicked on the link. The first few times i tried and tried but nothing would work. Even tech supports (even though i know they know nothing about computers and just read out the solutions off a screen) and they too advised me to format my machine. After doing so (with much stem coming from the ears at losiong all my personal documents) all seemd fine for a few months, then again the same thing. I did all steps again and wiped out my machine. But Alas today, just a few months on AGAIN i get the same problem that you all had.

After scanning this forum over and over again i came to one conclusion, its all looking like its anti virus software thats conflicting with shista... Oops i mean VISTA. I was running Comodo internet security (Antivirus, Adware, Malware, Spyware and firewall bundle) I simply took one simple step of removing this software and all is fine! No problems! so simple yet so damn fustratingly difficult to diagnose!

Hope this helps anyone else in some way. Kind of ironic how said software thats meant to protect your computer ends up conflicting with one of the most commonly used opperating systems. So i visited the Eset website, where i discovered some interesting stuff.
There is this KB article at http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2254&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1254468467772.

Why does my Protection status icon turn red after installing Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008? (4.0)

Problem: The ESET icon next to the system clock turns red after installing Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

Solution: Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 can conflict with version 4.0 of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus. If you are running version 4.0 of either ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus and have installed the latest update for Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, which includes Service Pack 2, you may be experiencing issues with your ESET security product.

An incompatibility between Service Pack 2 and the 4.0 versions of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus may prevent the proper functioning of real-time file-system protection. If your computer is experiencing this issue, the ESET icon next to the system clock will turn red, alerting you that maximum protection is not ensured. It may also notify you that your ESET security product needs to be reinstalled. However, reinstalling will not fix the issue. An update for version 4.0 ESET security products has been released and automatically distributed.

My guess is, that this refers to the same problems we're discussing about here. Only instead of the protection status icon turning red, the machine freezes and occasionally produces the well known "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog" message.

I checked the release date of the (Dutch) v4 upgrade file and it's from September 11th. This appeared to be a newer version then the one i installed earlier, causing all the problems. So i decided to give it a try and installed it. That was about an hour ago and everything is still stable. So now i'm running the newest AV software and SP2 at the same time. I'll keep you posted.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

As mentioned before, i have SP2 running without any problems at all. But as soon as i upgrade my AV software NOD32 from v3 to v4, things go bad. This happens with SP1 as well as with SP2. So like i described earlier in this topic, i don't think SP2 itself is the culprit, however i do agree that a Vista update has something to do with it. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Communications between Vista and AV software causes the problem, so one of them is guilty. Has the jury reached a verdict?

[quote][b]pdv001 (9/27/2009)[/b][hr]This is definitely an issue with Windows Service Pack 2. I had the same symptoms right after downloading the updated for Service Pack 2 from Windows where my computer would just lock up and be non responsive immediately after logging into windows or minimal use. I had to do a hard shut down every time and go through a disk check. If I used the Ctrl Alt Delete keys it would bring up a black screen and the error "logon process has failed to create the security options dialog" box.

How I fixed my computer: I restored my computer to a restore point before downloading Service pack 2 and unistalled my Norton Systems Works Anti Virus (to be on the safe side). After System Restore (In Safe Mode) I then logged back on and re-installed my Anti-virus. I was sure to change my Windows update options to not Automatically download updates and now without Service Pack 2 on my computer it is back to normal.

I have sincee hidden the Service Pack update and I will not be downloading Service Pack 2 again!!! I had this mysterious problem started occurring some weeks ago and since then i've been struggling with it. In my case it's positively solved now, so i'd like to share my solution.

It all started in a very unfavorable situation. Due to a renewal of my house my computer had been stored since last june. I started using it again around half of august. In the process i installed a new TV tuner card and connected a wireless keyboard and mouse. Further more my AV software NOD32 needed to be upgraded, like several other programs. And last but not least, SP2 for Vista was released, which i installed. In other words, this was not an ideal situation for tracking down a problem. The culprit could be so many things.

I tried almost anything mentioned in this topic. Unfortunately with no result. Until then my primary suspects were the TV card and SP2. In order to rule them out i removed the TV card and rolled back to a backup image from june. The problem persisted. Thanks to this thread i then began focussing at NOD32. To be honest i never really suspected the upgrade from v3 to v4, because i always trusted this product completely and i couldn't imagine it causing these kind of problems.

Browsing through this topic though, things began falling into place. Many of you linked the problem to AV software. Since the only message Vista produces is related to a security issue, this could well be it. But then again, how could the problem still persist after i rolled back to a backup in which NOD32 wasn't upgraded yet? I then reconstructed everything i did and in which order. Suddenly i realized i upgraded NOD32 not long after the several rollbacks, because i was sure that wasn't causing it! So about a week ago i downgraded NOD32 back from v4 to v3. And guess what? Still stable, which was unthinkable with NOD32 v4 installed. I had to hard reboot every 5 minutes to 1 hour if lucky.

So in my case i identified NOD32 as the culprit with 100% certainty. I can imagine not only specifically NOD32 causes this problem, but any kind of AV software in general. Especially since the Vista Security Center started notifying me about NOD32 v3 reporting it's status in a format which wasn't supported by Vista anymore. That way i got to upgrading to v4, which was supposed to have solved that problem. It did indeed, but as we all know, it created a much bigger problem. The AV software notifications must have been triggered by a Vista update, because v3 always worked well. I don't know which update is involved, but this tells me that this whole thing must be a compatibility issue.

However this problem apparently already exists for a while, i still haven't read any comments from the AV software manufacturers. This amazes me. Are they still unaware of the problem or just not acknowledging it? When will they fix it? How will people know when they can safely upgrade their AV software to solve Vista incompatibility? Who knows, but i sure hope this post will contribute to solutions for you all!

Kind regards,
Gerard
The Netherlands

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Okay I had ready most of everyones posts....I too had this problem very recently, however I am aware of the problem at hand. It seems this only happens when I install an additional Spyware remover application. I currently have Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus and it has never given me problem. Recently a friend of mine insisted for me to get webroot spysweeper in which I did and it detected a trojan virus called Trojan-aax5, which is not a real threat until you remove it or quarantine it. Anytime I would remove the virus my system would do exactly what everyone is having problems with, the whole ctrl+alt+del failed dialogue box....only way to correct the problem for was to combofix it or restore windows to an earlier time when they problem was not there. I will definately stick to Spyware doctor from now on....spyware doctor does not detect that trojan-aax5, so I can assume its not really doing any damage to the system. As for combofix, it does work and gets rid of all the problems however it resets pretty everything back to default.

Hope this information helps.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

My friend is having a problem with i believe Vista HP with SP1. Its a recent error where after startup everything will run but after 1-2 min (no matter what you do in those minutes) the computer will "freeze" - it will act like it is gonna load a program with the little circle thing, but never will and hitting CTRL+ALT+DLT brings up the Login process error message. It's a great little program and i've had no problems, I'm not sure why they'd start now!

From my experience the problem was gradual. It started whilst trying to join a particular server in a game I play, I thought nothing of it and hard-restarted the computer, happens again. Becoming more and more alarmed I try to google a solution, guess what? even Firefox would stop responding and subsequently bring down the whole system. The whole game related freeze lead me to believe it could have been a dodgy driver, I'm not sure.

When trying to System Restore in an attempt to fix the problem, it has been unsuccessful in restoring - strange.

I attempted to backup some files to an external hard-drive, resulting in another freeze about half way through. It's incredible how such a problem has not yet been addressed by Microsoft!

I'll post a few specs:

Dell Studio 1535
Intel 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo
3GB RAM
WD 250GB HDD

Any help would be great,

Quinton

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Hi I'm posting from work: the computer is a 6 month old HP w1907 desktop, running Win Vista (Home Prem) SP 2 on Pentium Dual Core 2.5 GHz w/6 Gigs of RAM.
It stopped working two days ago in a manner similar to what others have described already. It booted up fine (don't need a login password) and the desktop showed up normally. However when trying to open any program that's when the trouble starts: the mouse would go into the "circle" meaning it was thinking/processing or whatever you call it, but never finish. When I tried to click on the program again, or another program or the Start menu, it wouldn't be long before the entire screen would turn opaque white.

Several more minutes of thinking would go by, and sometimes the screen would turn black! Couple more minutes and there would be that error message popping up:

Login process failed to create security options dialogue. Failure: Security Options

Plus while trying to force a shutdown I saw that it seems that "Power2Go" which is a DVD burning program is stopping Windows from shuttind down completely. (Anyone have problems with this?)

I noted some of the suggestions in this particular thread (disabling Windows Defender, running antivirus or re-installing it, and a corrupted sidebar or the program within.

Turns out the computer (or another user after me) fixed itself. But just in case, I did uncheck "Automatic computer scan" in Defender and closed the Power2Go sidebar program.

Hopefully someone can provide tips to prevent it from happening again. But if not, y'all are not alone. This is the second Hewlett Packard PC that I have had a bad experience with and I just don't trust them very much.

VLS

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Same pb here, Computer getting slow somehow weeks after Vista installation, error on the HDD USB driver, and "failure of security option" with "log process ... Their support services wanted to send me 2 X 2T HDD to replace my "defective drives", ie new Vista installation for me :-(.

I insisted to talk to technical support at WD. They then asked me about Raid 1. My HDD are NOT Raid 1 compliant and get out of sync over time... I disabled Raid 1 and that fixed the problem, so to speak (ie I am beyond the return policy date and now the proud owner of 4 TB storage on 2 HDD - that is buying me quite some milage...).

Hope this helps.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

When I Binged for the "Login process has failed" message, there were a lot of responses, dating back to the original public launch of Vista. It happened to people using desktops and laptops of all makes and models, with just about every configuration of HDs and other hardware and software imaginable. Also all versions of Vista, both before and after SP1. And every imaginable solution was tried, from replacing the HD to reinstalling Vista to . . well, pretty much everything.

Some reported short-term success. Most simply vanished from the threads with no indication of success.

For me, it started a couple of weeks ago on a 7-month-old custom-built PC running Vista Ultimate 64. Most of the software others thought might be the culprit is not on my PC and never has been (one nice thing about a custom build - you don't get all the pre-installed junk).

I made no major changes prior to start of this problem, altho MS doubtless made many to Vista. FYI, I have automatic updates turned off, but have discovered MS can - and does - bypass that. So, given everything I've read and experienced about this problem, it seems pretty obvious it is a Vista issue, one that - or so it appears - can be triggered at any time by anything, altho I suspect there is some common element in there somewhere, but one only MS could possibly know. And, so far, I haven't found any suggested solution from them.

If anyone else has, please advise. Otherwise, I guess we just have to wait for Win7 and pray it is not as big a disaster as Vista (altho beta results I've seen to date indicate it may be even worse).
RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Me too... Mine's a week old Dell Tower and the problem first showed up after installing a boot hack that disables driver signing enforcement (ReadyDriverPlus). Didn't think much of it because I have a goofy display adapter driver from ATI and to me, it looked like the display adapter card driver was failing. After installing Norton AV2009 on this brand new computer, I began seeing incredibly long boot times with the inevitable "Login process has failed..." following a black screen. Was able to duplicate it pretty much at will using Crtl+Alt+Del. In a couple of instances I did a forced reboot. At this point I have not tried to do a system restore to a previous checkpoint. Did scans with McAfee, Norton, Windows Defender but would find no problems. After reading all these post seemed most likely to be Defender itself causing the problem so deactivated it on start up and fixed my trouble for about 20 hours before my pc locked up again.
FINALLY decided to give Avast a try and it picked up a on a Trojan Horse after the first scan. PC has been running for about another 20 hours now without trouble so think the problem has been solved. If I do not make another post soon then everything is okay. Good luck everyone.
GRRRR!!! My pc has stopped locking up but was still having trouble with programs continuing to stop responding for no reason which I forgot to mention before. Solution...restored everything back to default factory condition, to bad I didnt have eveything on backup =.=

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Hi people.

Sorry for be registering myself only when I got a serious problem, but I really hope anybody can help me... even if I read all the thread and I couldn't find a solution.

My ASUS F3Sc laptop, bought December 2007, just started today to freeze. First, I was watching, today after woke up, an .rmvb file, and then it freezed just in the middle of it. The character was saying "I'll hope for you!" and then...

"I'll hope for you!"
"I'll hope for you!"
"I'll hope for you!"
"I'll hope for you!"

And so on... Then, I manually rebooted and tried to see the .rmvb again... and it happened again. I rebooted again and I quit, tought it was the file. But a few minutes after rebooting, the problem returned: Windows started to freeze, CTRL+ALT+DEL first worked but then it also freezed...

Then, I tried a restore point (it was from the moment I woke up and turned on the laptop), and I tried another (from April 1st). But it didn't work...

I read all the thread, and in the past 8 hours:
- I've uninstalled avast! and AVG Anti-Spyware and it remained crashing;
- I've disabled Windows Defender (in services of msconfig and in Windows Defender window) and it remained crashing;
- I've installed AVIRA and it remained crashing;
- I've turned off ALL the startup processes and it remained crashing (now I have Windows Live Messenger, AVIRA and Faststone Capture activated);
- I've disabled UAC and it remained crashing;
- ...

I ran (still with AVG and avast!) total system scans in safe mode, and they found nothing. I'm really getting out of chances... because when I go into safe mode all works great. So there is something that isn't doing well in normal mode... :(

Sometimes I do CTRL+ALT+DEL and the black screen appears, showing after it the message "Failure - Security Options - Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog" bla bla bla... (in portuguese, my Vista language, that's why I couldn't get here faster...), but sometimes it just freezes...

Some people say tried to reinstall Windows Vista and it didn't worked, so I was trying not to do it before I'm sure it would work...

I would appreciate your help, if you know how to fix this now... I know nobody answered in the past 20 days, but I don't know what to do anymore... :(

Thanks, people...

André

EDIT (April 5th morning): I tried to enter in safe mode with network and... bang, 5 minutes later. So, maybe there's a process activated online that keeps freezing Windows. Can this help? I thought of seeing which processes are active in Safe Mode vs. Safe Mode With Network, but I don't know if it's a process that runs when the computer starts or just after...

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

I was getting that message also on my Gateway P-7805u notebook running Vista Premium x64. I would do a ctrl-alt-del in order to get into Task Manager and the message would appear . I discovered that this happened after I started HWmonitor, a freeware temperature sensor monitoring utility. I had a suspicion though, that this problem was really the result of an update to Webroot AntiVirus with Spysweeper 6.1.0.107 today 3-15-09. HWmonitor ran before and never caused this problem. Utilities like ccCleaner's registry integrity issue cleaner had suddenly become unbearably slow since that update. Webroot AV with SS had also become tortuously slow on it's scans. So, I uninstalled the Webroot software and ccCleaner has come back to life on it's scans. HWmonitor can be running while I do a ctrl-alt-del without the login failure message. I'll use Norton Internet Security to catch my spyware and viruses instead of Webroot.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Okay, I've been having this problem for the past couple of months but its only happened once in a while so I never really bothered about it however 2 weeks ago, its been happening every single day now and I have absolutely no idea what happened. I didn't install anything new or do anything major with my system, it just started happening. I've tried just about every solution on these 8 pages but with no results.

I've changed from AVG8 to Avast, disabled Windows Defender, disabled UAC (Can't tell if this method works because I had to re-enable as I typically use a standard account for normal useage and disabling it cuts me off from anything that needs administrator rights), done a system check (That sfc /scannow thing), checkdisk, run virus scan, Malware scan, Spyware scan and nothing has worked.

I've looked through Event viewer to see if anything occurred during the time I get the errors and I noticed this error popping out everytime it happens. I don't know if this is what caused the security options error or was just it a result of the error causing it to happen but I get this.

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5}. Pardon me if this is repeated information.

I ran into the ""same kind" of problem after installing Windows Live OneCare. My brand new laptop started to freeze after running for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then when I try to Ctrl+Alt+Del, the screen goes dark. Then after a few moments, I get the infamous dialog. Dismissing the dialog only returns back to the frozen state where only the mouse will work. All previously running applications are frozen and I have to do a hard reboot. After rebooting, the PC will do the same thing again.

My problem came down to bad disk access, where accessing certain files on my secondary drive would cause the computer to freeze as described above. I found this out because started backing up my drives thinking that I will have to reinstall Vista, and the PC would freeze while trying to copy the same [bad] files. I know because I would reboot and the backup process would freeze at the same file, and there were more than one. Also, when the PC frozed, I can see the drive access light blinkning endlessly.

I completed my back up and reformatted my secondary drive, restored the good files and reinstalled OneCare. Everything seems to be working fine now. It seems that while OneCare is scanning files in the background, it would run into the bad files and the system would lock up. The same as it did if I tried to read the bad files while making my backup.

So, if your problem is like mine, you will see the disk access light flashing while the PC is frozen, or in another poster's case, you will have drive head thrashing, or worse....

Another observation. Before installig OneCare, I was never able to completely do a defragmentation of the secondary drive. Assuming it is because of the bad files. The defragmentation process would freeze after awhile and I had to cancel out of it. So there you go. I had some bad sectors or something and the OS was not able to return disk errors back to the running program. I didn't have a disk utility on hand to check for bad sectors, so I did it the brute force way.

Hope this helps you guys.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Hi guys, been reading this thread for a while and decided to join the forums and post. I had pretty much the exact same problem, I brought this computer around June time and it worked perfectly up until around November when MS pushed out a update that failed for some reason, shortly after that all the problems started, my problem though isn't nearly as bad as you guys though. My problem would that after playing a game such as World of Warcraft or if I watch alot of online videos etc..the whole system would slow up and then Internet Explorer would display a horribly messed up image, Firefox would display the message content encoding error and if I try to access the taskmanager...Login Process has failed....you get the idea.

This image is what IE brings up during the problem.

http://img201.imageshack.us/my.php?image=iemesspb8.jpg

The problem got so bad that I was forced to reinstall vista, and immediately the problem came back but this time the actual Login Process has failed error never came back, but all the same symptoms of it are still there. Theres actually very little installed on this computer right now.

AVG8
Zonealarm
World of Warcraft

The Current methods i've tried are:

Removing AVG8 and replaced it with Avast - Problem persists
Swopping out graphics cards with a brand new one - Problem persists
Reinstalling vista - Problem Persists
Scanned Memory with Memx86 and vistas scanner - All memory working perfectly
Scanned HD for problems - no problems detected
unplugged external WD HD - Problem persists (readyboost enabled)

The current services I have disabled -

Windows Search
Readyboost
Windows Defender
Volume Shadow Copy (System Restore)
Superfetch

Problem still persists, only way for me to do anything is once i've played warcraft or after a couple of hours watching online movies is to immediately restart otherwise I have to do an improper shutdown. I read about the enabled protection mode and i'm actually trying that method right now.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

I too have had a bunch of problems lately, including a "phantom" IE running - Task Manager will sometimes show IE running, when it is not, and when I try to End Process, I get the "permission" window.

I don't use the vista firewall - I use Zone Alarm. For the past few days, I have been getting alerts telling me that various applications....that I didn't even know existed...are trying to connect to the 'net. This has never happened before.

This weekend, I am going to uninstall everything that I have recently installed, and go back to the last known "good" restore point, then shut down my Norton AV and try to reinstall my software. I'll let you know on Monday how it goes.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

I just experienced some of the same symptoms described above, about 3 days into a clean install on a new computer. Based on my experience and the wide range of software or conditions people are attributing it to, I think the majority of the issues are HDD related... (i could be wrong or there really could be multiple causes, but after 4 hours of frustration, everything seems fixed and fast again now)

1. Built new computer
Intel C2Q9400
GA-EP45-UD3P
8GB PC-8500
Geforce GT9800
160GB WD Caviar (Vista64 OS drive)
500GB WD Caviar (MP3s, misc music related stuff)
1TB WD Green (Videos)
1TB Hitachi Desktar (Temporary, Downloads, Backups)
Pioneer DVDRW

EDIT: installed Vista Ultimate 64 on 1/30 , installed a bunch of junk. worked fine, enabled AHCI in BIOS, messed things up. data still available through linux livecds, but decided to reinstall vista since I didn't want to live with a messy install, and want t do a backup image once i've gota clean install with all basic drivers and features in place.

2. Vista Ultimate 64, installed 1/31 w/ AHCI enabled, fully updated - no problems

3. installed a /bunch/ of stuff (control panels, utilities, drivers, plugins, software, shareware) and ran some HD .mkvs and encoding software- no problems.

4. plugged in old Windows XP HDD (WD Green 500GB) on external SATA connected to GSATA ports (separate from Intel Main 6 port SATA controller) to back up some old files. Windows complained about updating disk drive drivers and made me reboot a few times before it stopped complaining about new updates or hardware, but after that, the transfer went smoothly. (Intel Matrix Storage Driver 8.5 BTW)

5. Two days later, forgot that WinXP drive was still connected, sitting on a tabletop, with no airflow.

6. windows won't install java JRE, JDK, or OpenOffice. installers hang on computing required space, or flashes for a second, disappears but is still stuck in the background. try rebooting, hangs on shutdown screen, let sit for 20min, then hard reboot. reboot takes 5 min to login

7. Reboot again: on shutdown, "Error: Login process....." reboot again takes 5+min, but on startup, windows does a chkdsk on H: and I:, the WinXP and WinXPRecover Partitions.

8. Remember that "H: and I:" (a WD Caviar 500GB) are sitting on a desktop with no ventilation. Hot too the touch.

9. shutdown. disconnect external HD.

10. Reboot. No Problems :)

So i'm not sure if its a) an HDD error indicating heat or disk failure b) a windows error if you have an old hd with a windows install attached (possibly related to how windows indexes and installers search for previous installs) c) related to some hdd not behaving when controlled with certain power management commands d) all or e) none of the above, and my fix was a fluke

In any case, if you have an old computer case with little airflow and a large HD as your OS drive, do yourself a favor and check your temperatures and get a HDD heatsink and fan. Don't use a giant HDD as your OS drive, it'll only make things more difficult to backup, repair, defrag etc. Use livecds to see if its a mobo/card/psu/HD issue.

HTH someone else :) Cheers
Joe Erickson

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

[quote][b]djl (1/15/2009)[/b][hr]Error "Log on process has failed to create the security option dialog" occurred twice now on two different Vista PCs r-- ight after attempting Adobe Creative Suite update each time.
Error has to be related to Adobe & Vista. I read some people talking about having problems with the security protections, so I started playing around with mine and found out that EVERY PROBLEM that I've had so far is related to the security on the computer!

I have XP on my other computer and have NEVER had a crash in 4 years!! Everything has worked great and I've never had a problem working with anything!

Someone may have brought this up elsewhere, but I haven't actually found it. It seems like anytime you want to install anything, you need to shut down ALL the virus protection and everything will load just fine! If I leave it on, a lot of times the whole thing crashes and I have to manually restart.

The MAIN CULPRIT I found that was causing IE7 to lock up, was running the enabled protection mode. As soon as I shut that off, none of the websites that were freezing up froze anymore, and I was also able to hit Cnt/Alt/Del and actually have the window pop up without a freeze.

I don't really think that function should have to be on if you've got all the other security running, which should cover viruses, spyware, etc. I'm using Panda right now, by the way.

Leaving all the security on even affects some of the other programs not connected to the internet. After I shut it all off, I wasn't getting errors in Paintshop Pro, like I was when it was turned on.

I hope this might help some other people, if you haven't found a solution yet!

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

I hope the readyboost soution will work for me - i had exactly the same probem. First I did not get an error message, so I just reinstall the whole system on my HP 8510p notebook (T7500 2.2ghz, Vista Business SP1, ati 2600 graphics, 2 Gb Ram, Kaspersky Internet Security).

Now, 4 days after the reinstall I have the problem agian. Every time max 2. minutes after startup the system hangs. I can just move the mouse and luckily I got once the error message you all got.

Because it is a notebook, I cant set the hdd on another connector. Also deactivating the DVD device in the harware manager of vista did not bring a solution.

Before the 1 reinstall, deinstalling KIS, using systemrestore or deactivating the security center, ready boost of vista did not help.

Do I have to disable the DVD device in the Bios?

When it is the iastor.sys driver of Intel (I have a ICH8M chipset on a 945 Board I guess), why arent there any problems in the safe mode? While loading the safe mode, you can see how it loads different drivers, one of them is the iastor.sys

Any other solutions?

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Unless I misunderstood what you said, the problem does NOT occur in safe mode. If the problem was drivers or hardware, the same ones are in use in safe mode and should then exhibit the same problems.

You said you already tried System Restores and that didn't fix it, right?

The other possibilities are that a virus got itself attached to either an application file or a system file. If it was the first, unchecking all the startup items (so no applications are running) should have corrected it -- and it didn't.

The least destructive way to repair system files is to do an "sfc /scannow" from an elevated command prompt and let Vista scan, repair, and replace the system files.

If it still finds nothing, it's likely that you have a registry entry that is running a virus program but keeping it's entry out of the branch that gets replicated in the Startup tab. That's going to be really hard to find.

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

Attempted the modified boot with no Startups and the problem immediately occurred again. The only program that started up (even though I unchecked it as well) was my TrendMicro suite. Since I can not go into the program under a normal boot to change the settings (lock-ups much too quickly) and in safe mode the normal program does not run except for an automated virus scan when you select it, I do not know of any way to match sure it does not load on startup short of uninstalling and I do not have the original install discs to reinstall on this side of the Pacific. Since it still have the same problem even with minimal normal boot does that point to a possible hardware problem instead or still the possibility of a virus? And if it does look like a virus should I start a topic on the Security forum?

RE: [SOLVED] Error message: "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog"

OK -- as a general rule, if a problem disappears when you boot into safe mode, that means that the problem is most likely caused by something that is being loaded at startup -- not a hardware problem, nor malware.

The standard way to detect startup-related problems is as follows:
1) Type "msconfig" in the start area and press Enter
2) Select the startup tab
3) Uncheck all the startup items
4) reboot

If the problem is gone, it's one of the startup items, and you have to continue as follows:
1) Re-select the startup tab
2) Check the first unchecked item
3) Reboot

If the problem returns, the item you just checked is the one causing the problem. If not, repeat this process for each unchecked item.
