I have no problem connecting to the internet if I use a normal cable but when I use my wireless LAN AP, my PC can detect the wireless router with no problem at all but then my PC could not connect to the Internet (the Earth). My wireless router is a IEEE 802.11 LAN. I believe this is related to some settings which require a code or something? Could anybody let me know what to do? thanks!!

Using Remote Desktop Connection

Okay here's what I'd like to do (Hopefully I won't get anyone lost here).

I have a laptop that's on Windows Vista Home Premium & is faster than my boatanchor desktop (An old AMD Duron 1 Ghz. CPU with only 512 MB of RAM that's on Windows XP Home Edition, which I got back in 2001).

The desktop has a bulky monitor hooked up to it (It's not even a flat screen!). What I'd LOVE to do is GET RID of the desktop monitor completely in lieu of Remote Desktop Connection on the laptop. This way, I can still perform necessary functions that require my attendance at the desktop without actually HAVING A DESKTOP MONITOR to see by.

Is everyone still with me? Have I lost anyone?

I have managed to set up file sharing & can access a few select programs which I have to leave on the desktop because they won't run on the laptop directly due to compatibility issues BUT I can't access Program Files on the desktop via Windows Explorer on the laptop when needed (It says I need administrator privleges EVEN THOUGH I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR. Everything else I have on the laptop itself.

To top it all off, that bulky monitor takes up the necessary space on the desk needed to put the laptop on the desk as opposed to the table I eat food off of that's across the room.

If I can SOMEHOW get some help in gaining access to the desktop monitor (As in the one I physically see instead of the one Windows XP wants the world to see) using the RDC n the laptop, it'd be a BIG help!

Many thanks in advance! :D

Cheers :)

Cannot connect to remote disk over network

Hello, my first time here, and I'm looking for help.

I'm running Vista Ultimate, 32bit, with a home <A style="POSITION: static; TEXT-DECORATION: underline !important" id=KonaLink0 oncontextmenu="return false;" class=kLink onmouseover=adlinkMouseOver(event,this,0); onmouseout=adlinkMouseOut(event,this,0); onclick=adlinkMouseClick(event,this,0); href="http://www.vistax64.com/#" target=_top>network and internet. Recently I bought, and installed, the "Argosy Mobile Video HDD Pro," model #HV359T (it's essentially an external 1.5TB drive housed in a small case that lets you store and play media -- movies, music, pictures, etc. Nifty thing.) I set it up and it works just fine, and downloaded some movies on it via USB. BUT, I just can't map it to a drive on Vista on my home network. The error I get is simple: "<A style="POSITION: static; TEXT-DECORATION: underline !important" id=KonaLink2 oncontextmenu="return false;" class=kLink onmouseover=adlinkMouseOver(event,this,2); onmouseout=adlinkMouseOut(event,this,2); onclick=adlinkMouseClick(event,this,2); href="http://www.vistax64.com/#" target=_top>Windows cannot access 192.168.1.103" (The IP addr of the box). I can ping it, the supplied utilities can see it, but Vista just can't when I try to map it. I have no further diagnostic info, just that Windows can't access it; not too helpful. I suspect it's a security issue, but that's just a wild guess.

Anyone have such an experience or thoughts? Or more hopefully, a fix for the problem?

Thanks,

Dean

Unable to connect to internet when using the Guest User account

I am unable to access the internet when logged in under the guest user account. Button is still active and I can see pushing action, but no result, nothing. Clicking on Properties under “Manage network connections” returns small window “An unexpected error occurred” on both networks, wireless and wired.

I tried everything without any success. Restored computer as far as I could go (about 1.5 month) and back, reinstalled network drivers, removed drivers (automatic install after boot), check for viruses, any file errors and Event Viewer for any errors. Noting that would point to this missing link in network properties. This network properties button and error window “An unexpected error occurred” does not generate any events in the Event Viewer on my laptop.

This is Dell small XPS laptop. Both network adapters are separate from different manufacturers.

I would need specific information from registry on activating this network properties window. I scanned computer for corrupted critical Vista files, all OK, and recovery is not fixing this problem. It’s probably some additional faulty entry in registry file. Everything else is working fine including network connection on both adapters in default auto configuration (I cannot get to it to change it )

The last resource is to reinstall Vista to factory state on my laptop.

Any help would be appreciated.
connecting to networked printer

I have an HP Photosmart 7550 printer that is attached to a server running XP. I've reinstalled all of them to see if it was a problem with the program but since none of them work and my computer still has internet connectivity I'm at a loss to what to do. I think all my drivers are updated but I'm not too computer savvy so I wouldn't know what to do to troubleshoot them.
