Hard Drive Space

My Vista Hard Drive space seems to use more than the average space than my Xp machine.
The space used keeps increasing for no apparent reason.

Has anyone out there experienced a similar used space problem?

Recycle Bin icon

I deleted the Recycle Bin by mistake - and then emptied the Recycle Bin, loosing my icon.

I did find another one by going the Explorer. But for some reason or other it always shows that it is full (or something is in there) So I went to Properties and changed the icon. Now this icon always shows that it is empty.

How can I get a Recylce Bin icon that shows it is empty when it is empty and full when it is full?

Tired of Vista stalling on shutdown

So I have two Vista Home Premium boxes (toshiba laptops) both with 1 gig of memory...all updates have been performed, all is current....and most work fine....

Out of the clear blue they stall / stop working during shutdown.....no drive movement, sometimes just stops and locks up...requiring the infamous power down hard.

I don't like doing this....but it seems that is the only way to shut-r-down.

No it's not installing updates during this time...no drive movement, cpu's with little or no consumption...BUT I am running only 1-gig of memory...

I am thinking of upgrading to 2-gig to see if that helps....based on monitoring...seems to consume about 70% memory...

What can cause this system to fail to shut down... ???

I just got a new compaq computer with vista on it. When I first got it, it had a trial version of Office on it. I tried to uninstall the trial version and install office 2007. When I tried to install office 2007 it keeps telling me that the language is not supported by vista. My Office 2007 worked fine with my previous computer that had xp on it. Please help.

Vista Home Premium OEM Software usage

I recently bought my wife an HP DV6700 laptop with Home Premium factory installed. This is an AMD dual core with 2GB of ram and all the bloatware you can get. Her old Athlon XP was faster than this dual core by a wide margin; but it also ran XP Pro.

Can I buy an OEM Vista Home Premium DVD, then perform a clean install, loosing all the HP crap and activate with the notebook's product key? If so, I see no reason why I couldn't use the key that came with the Vista disk on my desktop.?.? Each computer would have an OEM product key unique to the computer its installed on.

The HP offers no way to make a "Windows" disk, just the recovery disks which still have all the crap that's slowing down everything. And by the way I've tried turning everything possible off via MSCONFIG & services. CPU is always 20%-40%, even at idle. Ram is 50% on average at idle also.

Any advice would be welcome,

Black screen appearing for 25 sec !

I`m not sure if I should post this thread in this board ...
But I hope you can help me,

everytime I try to enter a program that needs administration persmission a black screen appears for 10 sec then the pop up message asking me if I`d like to continue appears I click on continue and then another black screen appears for like 10 sec and then the notebook goes back to normal ...

Any idea how to fix it ? I never had it when I bought the notebook ...
