From what I've found, I'm beginning to believe that I'm going to be relegated to starting over with a blank slate and some backed up files. I did see a video on Laplink, it seems to be very similar to WETC. I'm going to keep looking and reading and checking back here for a few days.

RE: Installing 64-bit Ultimate

From personal experience, the only SW that reliably transferred apps from one box to another was Alohabob Relocator -- which MS bought and reissued as WET companion.

You're right about the other products -- they carefully don't say anything about moving apps. They only mention files and settings.

I read somewhere about a LapLink product (PCMover, not to be confused with FileMover) that claims to move apps as well.

But my guess is that neither will work because, if they work like Alohabob did (by copying DLLs, executables, and registry settings), unless the 64-bit system files are an exact match for the 32-bit system files, even if you could "move" the app, it probably wouldn't run.

Installing 64-bit Ultimate

Hellop,
I am in the planning process of installing a full version of Vista Ultimate 64-bit my PC which currently has Home Premium 32-bit installed. I was able to transfer setting/folders to my NAS using Windows Easy Transfer, but tried to use the WET Companion to transfer applications. Among other std apps (Office, Quicken, etc.), I several registered music/video editing programs purchased and downloaded online that I would prefer not to hassle with re-registering, new SN's and keys from the vendors.

I have seen a few 3rd party programs that state they can transfer apps from an "old" XP PC to a "new" Vista PC, but nothing claiming to be able to transfer from "old" Vista to "new" Vista. WETC cannot, tried it already. It automatically sees my current 32-bit Vista PC as the "new" one.

Ideally I want to transfer my apps from C: to my NAS, reformat and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit, then pull apps from NAS. Is there anything out there that can do it? Or any other advice would be great.
