I think that my mind is made up, ULTIMATE it is. Now just need to see if i can get it for less than £100!!!

If you go OEM, ultimate isn't that much more expensive. Ultimate is not completely worth the extra money for a simple home user, but dreamscenes are very nice (video backgrounds), and you wont ever need to worry that your version of windows wont be able to do something. I got ultimate version as I dont mind paying extra for the peace of mind and getting all the bells and whistles.

The difference in price for retail versions forces only people with money/ people needing home and buisness parts of windows to buy it over home premium. At OEM price, I would recommend Ultimate edition.

Thanks for that. I thought that might be the case. As a gamer i am always upgrading!.

Just need to decide on the Premium/ultimate choice.

Any ideas?

Regarding your question about what you can change in an OEM version before you have to reactivate, the answer depends on who you ask. MS has published a paper describing a complex algorithm they use to "score" changes such that you only have to reactivate if your changes exceed a threshhold -- that's the theory. The unfortunate fact, as evidence by tons of complaints on the MS forums, is that virtually any change is likely to deactivate your copy of Vista. Some that are guaranteed to force deactivation include memory, hard drive, video card, sound card.

But, as Jason indicated, should that happen, you call MS, convince them you have a legitimate copy of Vista, and they provide you a new product key.

Now i just need to decide on getting Premium 64 bit or Ultimate 64 bit!

You can buy an OEM no matter what, OEM just means it doesnt come w/ the fancy box. If you upgrade later on and Vista says you need to re-activate, all you need to do is call Microsoft and explain, they will give you a new Code.

Another question as i think about it.
I have been told that if i buy all the componants for a new system (mobo, ram, cpu, g-card, hhd, etc) and build it myself, i am legally allowed to buy an OEM copy of premium for this system. Is this correct?
If it is, what can i change in the future as far as upgrades go before the OEM copy says that i can no longer use it?
If not, and buy a PC with an OEM copy on it, what can i change in the future as the previous question?

It shouldn't matter what your old XP system was x64 or x86, as long as you are upgrading w/ a Vista x64 upgrade Vista will run at x64 and any applications designed for x64 will run in that mode. Granted they may need a re-install to recognize the new setup, but maby not.

Hello.
I am about to upgrade to Vista premium 64 bit.
I am currently running XP pro.
My processor is a Pentium 4 660 (64 bit)
Am i right in believing that at the moment, everything will be running at 32 bit, due to xp only being 32 bits?? (I have not got the 64 bit version).
Does this include say Flight Sim X which has been designed for 64 bit?
The reason i think this, is because xp is running at 32 bit, that will mean that everthing that is running on the system will also run at 32 bit whether it can run at 64 bit or not.

I know i waffle, but i hope that you get the general idea what i am trying to say!!

Cheers for your help guys, i am basically trying to figure out if it's better to get 32 bit of 64 bit.
