The transparency ("Glass") effects in Windows Aero rely on the D3D 9Ex code path. When 9Ex was still codenamed 9.0L, there were rumors that this would be Direct3D 10 for Windows XP.[5] It was quickly pointed out that this was not the case, mainly due to lack of support for WDDM in Windows XP.[6]
RE: Greetings!

Thought so. Is it going to be vista exclusive? Or do other OS's just have to wait for the chance in implement it?

RE: Greetings!

Okay first off

Welcome to the forums,

Yes Vista is the only system that runs DirectX 10. It bring up the gaming level by a lot. I can't use it sadly. My old *** AGP is too old ***...... Anyhow some XP drivers are compatible with Vista.

Hope your use of Vista will be a happy one. Mine is.

Greetings!

Hey! I just got my new computer set up a few days ago (Specs in Signature) and installed Windows Vista 2 nights ago. I would consider my knowledge with computers to be, intermediate.

I must say, I am very impressed with the interface. It runs beautifully with my videocard and very smooth.

However I did run into quite a few problems during installation (as do we all with windows in general), so I did not let that get me down ;)

I got all of my parts from newegg. The drivers that came with my motherboard were outdated and not compatible with vista so I had to head out to ECS's website and get the new ones..No biggie, just letting people know who may run into the same problem.

My 8800GTS driver CD was up-to-date and installed wonderfully. The only thing I was sorta bummed about was that the Nvidia firewall that is supposed to come with the drivers only comes with the XP driver install. Oh well. I figure with all these massive security features Vista has to offer the windows firewall should not be all that bad (any feedback or suggestions?).

The Dual core runs awesome, I downloaded one of the gadgets that shows the CPU usage for both cores, pretty awesome I thought.

I am a gamer (mostly World of Warcraft, and soon to be Battlefield 2142). Thats pretty much all my computer is going to be used for. I had to go Vista because...well, its the only OS supporting DX10 (That I know of, Please correct me if im wrong). I ran into a small issue installing and patching, but i wont mention that here. I just wanted to make and introductory post because i plan on becoming very active in these forums, asking many many questions :) hopefully I will be able to contribute just as much ;) Take Care everyone, And thanks for taking the time to read this.
