Hi everyone, just checking in. I bought a laptop with Vista (Home Premium) installed yesterday and am still getting to grips with it. I'm very used to XPSP2 so comparisons are unavoidable! My worst gripes are that I can't sync my MP3 player with a media player (I need to upgrade some firmware...) and my cheapo USB stick doesn't work. On the other hand it's all very pretty and seems to fit together nicely. We will see. I may need advice. Which is why I'm here... ;-)

Hi,

I got tired of my old XP and after kicking it plenty of times after a system crash, decided to purchase a new one with vista. Still not uset to it. I miss a few things, on explorer for example, the "delete" cross, and on the status bar, at the bottom, the number of files in the folder and the total size of files in it. One of the reasons to join is to look for info about dual boot. Thr old PC cage and think the motherboar died but the hard disk is still alive.... so, I am just curious!

Just signed up so thought that I would do the polite thing and introduce myself... I am Rory and I am in London. New to Vista and, like so many others seem to be, impressed but at the same time frustrated and will address some of the frustrations in other threads. Thats me as a home user... I have also been asked by my Boss to look at the relative merits of Vista over XP for our business needs in the next few years so may ask for wider community advice on those matters.

Hey guys I was on one of my camaro forums and saw a link to this place and figured I'd check it out.

Now I have been having a couple issues with my vista. Once in a blue moon it will just flat out "crash" and say there was a critical error and dumps something to memory. The other issue I have is with wma, on some movies it will say there is a problem with your video card and cannot play or something close to that.

Im sure as we like to know what is done to a car to accurately help, you guys want to know what kinda computer I have.

For starters it a Toshiba that I got from Circuit City and came with vista already installed. It is the Intel Core 2 with 1.99GB of memory and T5500 @ 1.66GHz. Oh and it is a laptop. IDK if thats all the info you guys need and I don't really know anything about computers so if there is something else you need let me know.

I have owned multiple IT companies and am now doing some small business consulting. I need help getting rid of screensaver names in my properties for the screensavers. I have uninstalled the programs, but the names remain on the screensaver list and it's getting pretty long. How do I delete them Each time I go to personlize my screensaver and pick one the list is overwhelming.

Minimum reqs for Vista

Hello, I'm new to the forum but I have had Vista for a few months now...

To be completely honest I'm really not happy that I upgraded. Vista's UI is really really fun and flashy (A good thing) But I bought a brand new comp (I chose the parts, not some saturday afternoon deal) and it's just really slow and buggy.... About the buggy part, I understand... It's a new OS and I was rdy for the bugs and the compatibility problems so I'm not asking about that.. My question is, what's the real minimum of hardware in order for Vista to run smoothly... I like playing World of Warcraft and this computer is great but when I get into a capital I get an FPS of down to 0.7 which IMO is kind of pathetic for a new computer and if I have something running in the background which I usually do the screen just freezes from time to time for up to 20-30 seconds.

My config ATM is:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13Ghz

512X2 (Dual channel) 1 gig total DDRII, about the speed I'm not sure.

Nvidia Geforce 7200GT (the 512 DDRII version)

I'm using the Vista home premium (First time since 3.11 that I've had a legal OS^^).

Will it solve my problem to add a gig or 2 of memory or should I just down(/up?)grade back to XP?

Should I upgrade to Vista Ultimate? (I don't really know the difference)

Anyway, thx a lot for reading and I hope that someone knows a way to end my misery;-)

I just joined, found this forum a google search for information on some issues with Vista Ultimate. I will look around and see if there are any ideas. My issues concern some software and some hardware. Software is somewhat related to hardware. I have a Visoneer 9020 scanner that is not suppored and an Iomega ZIP250 drive that the software gives me an error message when trying to install it. Vista will read from the ZIP drive, just gives me some funny messages when logging on. I am running this as a dual boot keeping my WinXP professional until I am happy with Vista.

Hopefully I can get some answers from some tech savy people. Thanks for making this forum available.

I bought a standard compaq presario from best buy a few months ago to replace my broken laptop. I loaded microsoft office 2007 and use excel for my budget among other things. When I type words into a cell there is no problem, but when I type numbers into a cell and then select another cell excel shows "not responding" and it takes about 10 seconds before it moves on to the next cell. On XP excel 2003 would move from cell to cell without hesitation. Just wondering if there is a know problem that is causing the delay.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone. I'm Vistamelle and I'm new to the forum. I have Vista Business and just installed it this week. I've been dying to try it out before purchasing it to see if it was worth it so that is what I'm doing. It's better than XP (although I thought it wouldn't be) because it was so invasive. I had tried it a few months back but reverted back to XP Pro which was initially installed on my PC. But now I'm ready to take the plunge and just looked in the search engine and figured if I could join a forum and learn new things about vista instead of going blindly through a ton of searches for my answers. So here I am. It's 4:33 AM here and I was sleeping but woke up because of a passing snowplow and now I can't fall back asleep so I decided to come and check my mail.

Well, I am having my notebook replaced by HP. It was a dv2125nr running XP. I was absolutely in love with it. THeir service neglected to re-install hardware they took out on three different service occasions. So they are sending me a brand new $1,900 machine outlined I believe in my signature. I wanted XP because of all the problems I heard about with Vista, but they can't install XP anymore, so I was stuck. Should I be worried? I have been doing some research and there seems to be a very wide area of opinion.
