There is a site www.doom9.org that deals specifically with this sort of files and tools etc; on how to extract them, they have good tutorials for just about everything and their explanation would be much clearer than mine to follow, it's not something I've done for a good while so I would have to refresh the technique myself.

I should have been a little clearer.

I looked on the dvd and there are two folders, one is AUDIO_TS and the other is VIDEO_TS.

The audio folder is empty.

The video folder has several files, of types .BUP, .IFO, .VOB.

It is on a purchased dvd video of a live concert. I have no idea how they are laid out on the dvd.

I thought that worst case would be to play it on the computer and somehow capture the sound while it is playing, even though that would take a couple of hours.

I assume that it would be legal to do this, as it is purchased?? This would allow the sound to be played in the car, in a plain old cd player.

What sort of DVD is it, a film or data disk and what filetype are the audio files ? this is assuming you have the 'rights' required to copy such files if they are on a commercially produced disk.

I would like to take the audio portion of a dvd and transfer it to a cd.

What equipment do I need and what are the steps.

I'm running Vista home premium.
