Sound problem after update

I finally installed Vista service pack 1 and the sound went after that.

I read that there might be problems like this with after that update, but there's supposed to be a yellow question mark when you open the device manager. I didn't see that. Also I ran dxdiag from cmd.exe and it said no problems found.

The only weird thing is that the regulator of windows sounds has a black background.

What could be wrong and how to fix it? How to get the sound back? I don't care much about windows sounds as they're normally muted anyway... But the general sound... How to get that back?

Besides hardware, what differences in other aspects?

For HD Radio

As for connectivity
The Zune HD is able to stream music over Wi-Fi, something the iPod Touch cannot do out of the box. But the iPod Touch can stream music over Bluetooth (via A2DP) to compatible players.

Feature-by-feature, the Zune HD and iPod Touch are very similar and now the lower price puts advantage over the Zune HD. But in long time, iPod has been occupied the major markets. Can Zune HD win iPod Touch? We have to wait.

VIA Audio Deck problems + no voice

Hi... I recently switched my motherboard to Asus P5Q SE PLUS. This was also my first chance to hook up all of my logitech X-530 speakers. Music works fine, through all speakers when 'speaker fill' is enabled. In the past few hours i discovered another problem... I'm now unable to change any settings on VIA audio deck. It may show that speaker fill is switched off but it really is still working. And any other settings i try to make there, don't work. Like changing from 6 speaker configuration to 2 or changing from 16-b audio to 24-b. I can't make these changes anywhere anymore!

When i play a movie (With VLC player) on my pc, i can hear all the background sounds+music but no voice. I changed from 5.1 to 2 front+2rear, the sound comes out from all speakers + subwoofer and i could hear the voice. Some movies, in the other hand, work nicely and i don't have to change any settings.

The bigger problem is following: I play a lot of games... The first one I installed after switching the MOBO, was Operatin Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. I can hear ALL sounds from ALL speakers EXCEPT the voices. I can see subtitles though... Before switching my MOBO, i also had the game, ALL sounds worked perfectly, including voice. Same with movies. One difference is: My old mobo only supported 2.1

Right now, i closed the VIA audio deck to open it again to solve a problem...I could see no options there. Most of the stuff was completely black. Now i'm unable to re-open the audio deck from control panel. I double click it, Nothing happens.

Please help me find a solution to this!

Edit: It looks like i have lost ALL control over the sound stuff. Any modification i do, even from the playback/recording tab that all PCs have. Totally out of control! Only the volume seems to be working :O
It was fine at first, Everything used to work when i first installed the OS.

This is what the Audio Deck now looks like. Even system restore won't fix it anymore. Nor will Uninstalling/reinstalling/updating the driver. Now, in the very bottom right corner, the speaker icon has an X next to it and i can't do anything about it.

I need to make sure I have the latest windows media player on my computer as a few different third party applications which play through WMP do not work. When I contact the third parties they said to download the latest updates since that is likely the cause of the problem. When I update the 'Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB941651)' it says The update does not apply to your system. Now I know for a fact I have the 64 bit system since I've checked this under the computer properties and I had to know for other software I had to download. Why am i getting this error?? Please help.

video and other flash needed lag

hi there! can anybody help me? i have a problem in playing a video because of lag. everytime i play video and other application using flash, im experiencing an extreme lag. even if the video has finished its buffer. i tried to uninstall the flash player and everything,then try to install it again but nothing happens. what will i do? i tried to browse the net about the same problem ive been experiencing but no one can give me a better solution for it. can someone help me? thank you!

VIA HD Audio Deck came with my motherboard. It worked well on xp but when i upgraded to vista and installed it again it stops the sound from working. when i try to test the sound it says failed to play test tone and there is no sound at all but when VIA HD Audio Deck is not installed it works normal. is there anyway to make the audio work with VIA HD Audio Deck installed

pc freeze up during avi playback

No audio after Vista clean install

Recently wiped out my HP Pavilion 793c and did a clean installation of Windows Vista. After doing this I have lost the audio. I now realize that my HP is not compatible with the Vista upgrade, but I am optimistic someone can point me in the right direction toward fixing this problem. I have Realtek AC 97 and Soundblaster Live! soundcards. My audio icon on the toolbar has a red circled "x" and says "No audio output device is installed" when I scroll over it. In the device manager I have 3 items with an exclamation point in a yellow triangle. They are under "Other Devices"... Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Input Device, and Unknown Device. I have tried downloading updates from HP as well as Realtek, but to no avail. I have also tried uninstalling these devices in the hopes that the automatic install after re-booting would fix the problem. It didn't. I have been searching the web for days trying to find an answer... Please help!!

sorry if this has been answered but i cannot get the search function to work,
anyway, when i connect my dell inspiron 1525 laptop (via hdmi)to my lcd tv, its a pain enough just getting it to dual screen with the sound coming from the telly but whenever i watch a video on the tv at full screen its fine until i touch anything on the keyboad and the video returns to a minimised window, this means i cannot watch anything streaming off the net on the telly whilst browsing facebook etc..... can anything be done? and does anyone know if windows 7 handles dual screen any better than vista?

ATI TV Wonder, Digital Cable Decoder

I finally decided to take the leap to vista now that most of the serious technical issues have been worked out with SP2. While taking a look at what new and cool things I can do with my Vista ultimate OS, I got to peak at media center. Here's the thing, I subscribe to Digital Cable w/ HD content, and to my knowledge the only way for me to take advantage of the digital and HD content is to obtain an ATI TV Wonder card into which my provider will then come to my home and provision and insert a CableCARD for my account with them. Problem is, I cant just go to newegg and buy one to install.

Does anyone have any information about these cards?

I'm after the internal card because I want a fully functional media center HTPC. I want to be able to watch all the premium content from my cable provider without leaving media center or changing inputs. I want to use my PC as my DVR rather than the over priced, crappy DVR/Decoder that my cable provider rents me or another commercially available DVR. The only other device I want in my audio/video cabinet is my home theater amp/audio processor.

I understand that HTPC is still limited to enthusiasts so what the hell, call me an enthusiast. :P

Video transfer from Camcorder

Have a Sony camcorder with firewire. Connected it us as per the sony maual and the cancorder recognizes tha connection. But vista does not recognze the cam.

1394 works fine as per the device manager...

What can i do??

with win vista ultimate..i ve been using it since a year. and i am facing this strange problem since a week.

i ve realtek high audio defination driver installed. now the problem is i dont get the windows sounds in following applications.

Explorer, Internet explorer, Newly Installed Poker game which is "win vista ultimate extra", win logon log off sound.however i am getting sounds in freecell, herts, minesweeper and all that old games plus in all the windows media player videos and audio works fine. i can play the songs and videos.

i ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and devices for sound but it doenst change this behavior.

now it driving me nuts....

Default Sound Device Issue

Hi, and thanks for looking.

My computer (laptop, Vista Home Premium) was working fine with regard to sound devices. Onboard speakers operated if nothing else was plugged in, and sound was handled by other USB devices when they were plugged in (ie: extension speakers, and ms lifechat wireless headset w/usb receiver)

Then I tried to set up bluetooth with a USB dongle adapter and a motorola wireless headset, for use with skype. The dongle was recognized, and so was the headset, but it would not become the active device when turned on. I called Motorola, and they led me on a wild goose chase of resetting the default sound device to the bluetooth headset - before I realized that even then it would not allow me to pick up a skype phone call unless I had the headset as my default device 24/7. Otherwise, I would have to go to control panel>sound>reset default device EVERY TIME I wanted to use the headset. Clearly not functional for answering a phone call in real time. I guess there IS NO SUCH THING as a functional skype bluetooth headset yet. (one with seamless on/off as active device) This seems to be an operating system issue, not a device issue.

So I abandoned the attempt and just want to go back to using my lifechat. The PROBLEM is: Now the computer has been manually reset to using onboard speakers as the default sound device, and it WILL NOT switch over to my USB devices at all, when they are plugged in, except for skype. Strangely, if I plug in usb wired headset, usb speakers, or lifechat, they get the sound for skype, but not for anything else ie: WMP etc. The devices are still recognized, and when I test them, they work. However, they are not used as the active device by just plugging them in, as it was before messing with it. They will not handle sound from ALL SOURCES unless they are reset to be the default device manually in settings. This was never necessary before! Can anyone help me get this back the way it was?

Now whenever I play a video in vlc player, color scheme changes to vista basic and i get a pop-up window saying " color scheme has been changed to vista basic ". Then I uninstalled Quick Time. Downloading Photos to CD's

My Son's family went out west for Easter Vacation. They have approx. 3 SD memory cards of 4 GB of photos each. The standard CD is 700 MB, how can I down load the photos onto CD's? Will Vista allow me to start downloading photos and tell me when CD is full and to insert a new one? If I place them on a DVD, can I then capture photos to print or e-mail? I have downloaded many photos to CD's, but never more than 700 MB at a time. Please advise.

Transferring movie from DVD-RW to DVD-R

I struggled for a long time to be able to create a dvd of pictures and video that would play on my dvd player.
I finally was directed to an open source program "DVD Flick" that accomplished my goal. However, because of all the trial and error attempts I was wasting too many DVD-R's, so I ended up burning my successful project to a DVD-RW.
So now that I'm happy with the finished movie, I want to preserve it on a DVD-R. I attempted to just burn the saved "converted" file from my video folder to a brand new DVD-R inserted in the E drive, but after it was done burning, it would not play in the dvd player.
Then I tried uploading the completed project (on the DVD-RW) back into a folder and then re-burning it from there to a new DVD-R.........but it wouldn't allow me to do this??
What is the simplest way to get my finished (encoded) movie from my DVD-RW to a DVD-R?

Also, would I be better to record another movie project ( jpegs + mpegs) on the same DVD-R, and will a dvd player recognize them as separate projects? Or is that a waste of DVD-R's and maybe I should just burn them to CD-R's? What's the difference, other than price and available space?
