I went to www.creativelabs.com and looked for drivers.  I got to a page with the message,

Please note that the product you have selected has been classified as "End of Service Life"Please note that the product you have selected has been classified as "End of Service Life"

I had Vista RC 2 Build 5744 on a Dell Dimension 8200 with that sound card and the sound was fine.  I didn't have the Creative console, however.

I think the point to make here is that that card is no longer supprorted for good reason. it cannot be made fully compatible and logo certified under Vista and especially as it's no longer supported by the manufacturer you are not covered by any warranty should that hardware cause damage to any other device on the same PCI Bus, which is not as remote a chance as you might think, personally I would replace it as soon as you can afford with a card that is Vista capable and compatible (Creative are hoping that the 'devil driver' for that card will die with it, their reputation is still tarnished from the damage that caused).

Vista's main stability comes form supporting newer, solid hardware and doing away with support for less reliable hardware.
