If you frequently have large, demanding programs running, it can be helpful to direct vista when to focus CPU cycles toward or away from the program.

You can set application priority in Vista by starting the task manager (ctrl - alt -del).

Right click the application you want to change priority -> Hit "Go To Process"

In the Process windows right click "Set Priority" and change it accordingly.
