Well I installed RC1 this w/end and I have a problem with sound lag / crackling. My sound card is a SB Live and correct drivers are installed. Thought it might be media player so I tried Winamp and got the same issue. Then I decided to try my on-board sound, disabled my SB Live in device manager, drivers installed correctly for the on-board and I used different speaker and I still get exactly the same thing I even tried playing a normal CD... SAME THING... lag and crackle.

I was looking at the CPU utilization and see that the lag / crackle seems to happen when the CPU utilization fluctuates a lot. I also tried playing around with the Vista sound settings but that didn't work..

Any ideas?

I don't have any sound lag problems, i have a Creative SB Audigy 4, which doesn't work on RC1, but the onboard Realtek sound works as good as mobo sound can! This is a simaler problem as someone was having before, where someone's CPU usage shot to 100% while playing music... all I can say is try seeing if the 2 drivers are installed correctly, and try d/l drivers off their websites, and not jsut letting vista auto install them.

Found the solution on MS Communities:

Update via sata raid storage controller driver from:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/VIA-RAID-530c.shtml

No more crackling here.
