I still like AVG's 7.5 Free edition for XP. Not sure about AVG for Vista Home.
But I don't believe there is one best AV.
After using almost all on your list, I feel there are about equal.

It would be best to stay well clear of Norton and McAfee Antivirus. They cause problems all the time, interfering in with startup, windows update, sidebar, games and they use more resourceses than alot of other antivirus programs available.

Asus-SLI Deluxe, AMD x2 4400 (oc'd to 5000), x1900xtx (oc'd), 2GB Corsair XMS RAM 2-3-3-6 (4x512), 500GB Maxtor HDD w/ 32mb cache, 300GB Maxtor HDD w/ 16mb cache, Creative Audigy 4 (Daniel Driver Set), HVR-1100 Dvb-t hybrid TV card, 580W Hiper Type M PSU.

5.0 score on Vista Ultimate x64, 6040 3DMark 06' score on XP

The avira is a good choice. Avast is another one.

Zonealarm has been rated the best on many sites. Although it is slower then the rest, it is the most through. It catches pretty much any virus and stops it in its tracks. Go here if you want to see for yourself.
