Whenever I plug in a new USB Drive (External HDD or Flash Stick), or any other basic USB peripheral, Vista can never find drivers for it - rather than being plug&play, I have to point the driver installer to my FileRepository folder.

How can I get Vista to automatically find the drivers?

Just added a "pinned" post with some advice from MS about troubleshooting USB driver problems. Have a look at it.

Also, it could be possible that your driver cache has been corrupted. This seems to be an increasing problem in Vista. To clear out your driver cache, do the following:
1) Open Windows Explorer and go to the c:\Windows\inf folder
2) If there is a file named infcache.1, delete it
3) If Vista won't allow you to delete that file, you will have to do the following:
3a)Reboot, Press F8 to get a menu, choose starting in command mode
3b)Enter the command "cd C:\Windows"
3c)Enter the command "rm infcache.1"
3d)enter the command "exit"
3e)reboot
