| | | | I have an old machine running Win2K and a new laptop running Vista. Both
machines are in a workgroup. The Vista machine can see itself, the Win2K
machine and the router. However, the Win2K machine can see only itself.
Can someone tell me if Microsoft did this purposely to encourage people to
migrate to Vista?
Everything seems to be configured properly. If someone can tell me how to
check out things thoroughly, that will help. TIA

Yup.
And Microsoft is also behind Global Warming, is secretly the funding
behind Area 51, and is a major player in the New World Order.

I would suspect the Win 2K is using Netbeui on the NIC which has been
installed by default - out dated technology. I think that if you remove
Netbeui off the NIC and just have Client for MS Networks and TCP on the NIC,
it might work for you.

No, there is no restriction on Windows 2000 machines or, Windows XP
machines participating in a workgroup with Vista computers. It works
fine. You clearly have something set up improperly.

You're welcome. Glad to help. Sorry I can't be more specific about
what might be wrong, but I lay no claim to being a networking expert.

With both 2000 and Vista, you will have to make identical user accounts and
password on both machines.
