| | | | I can not find system file checker, after messing up my files in a
partitioned desktop Dell XPS 420 . I want to do a restore to yesterday, but
can't find system file checker first. I ran an advanced search and it gave
me links that would not open. When I followed the directions for sfc to dos.
I couldn't get in as administrator. (I am). Search also gave me links to
windows 98 links from 2000 from my old machine. Please help me do system
file checker and restore to yesterday. Thanks. Ginny

Hi Ginny, sfc.exe is located in C\Windows\System32\ folder.
Go to the start button, and in the search field, type CMD.
At the top of the column, Rt/click on CMD, and Run as Administrator.
A black window should appear, with a flashing cursor.
At the cursor, type in SFC /scannow.
(Note the space between the C and /.)
Let vSFC do it s job.

System file checker is available from the command prompt:
1/ Click the Start button
2/ In the Start Search box (bottom of start menu) type 'CMD' (without the
quotes)
3/ The cmd.exe application should appear at the top of the search list under
Programs and it should be highlighted. At this point press Enter to start
the command prompt
4/ When the command window opens type 'sfc /scannow' (without the quotes)
and press Enter
5/ The system file checker will now check your system files.
