| Ive just put a 500gig western digital sata drive as a storage disk in my computer. Its not having windows installed on it. Put it in and vista couldnt see it, but the bios could (that includes it not being there in disk management). I then plugged it into a XP machine and another vista machine, they saw it no problem, did a full format and put some files on it, so i know the drive itself is working. I then returned the disk to my vista machine and its still not visable (again not even showing up in disk management) Ive tried all the different sata ports ive tried different power leads and different sata cables. Im completely stuck now to why it isnt working, it should surely at least show up in disk management, done afew searchs and all the advice i can find is "look in disk management itll be there" i was told to check the "safely remove devices" i have and its showing 3 raid devices (which i presume refers to my 2 raptors and the 3rd being the 500gig. But i dont know how this helps?
grateful for any advice. |

| From what you said, it looks like you have the two Raptors configured as RAID devices. Are they PATA drives or SATA drives?
Are you planning on adding to 500GHB as a RAID device -- to integrate with the other two? Or, are you just trying to add it as a secondary drive, formatted as an NTFS partition?

| | im running the 2 raptors (which are only available as SATA) in raid 0. the 500gig is just to be a stand alone drive purely for extra storage. I also have two 120gig sata drives that i have in raid, ive pulled these out and used the exact same connection for the 500gig so i know its not a hardware fault. |

| OK, but did you also have the two 120's set up as RAID, which you've replaced with a single 500GB?

| i am not planning on replacing them, i want to use all five (2 raptors, 2 120s and the 500) but for the sake of trouble shooting to get the drive working i removed the 120s. I was thinking my psu was not strong enough or there was a problem using so many drives.
my specs are as follows
AMD x2 5000+ black edition at 3.3GHZ zalman cnps 9700-NT
MSI K9N diamond
3072mb: OCZ ddr800 gold
MSI 7800GTX
Antec NeoPower 480W ATX2.0 PSU
WD raptor x2(OS)
Seagate 120gig SATA x2 in raid0 (installed programs)
Western digital 500gig SATA (storage)
if thats any use |
