| To all the Forum users applying this Service Pack ...
This is a Release Candidate -- meaning that it is better than a Beta but it's still not the final product. Do NOT use this on your mainstream machine. Period.
Especially do NOT use this on a machine that came preinstalled with Vista.
The presumption is being made that since this is available through Windows Update, then (1) it must be removable, and (2) doing that will automatically restore your machine to its pre-SP1 state. There are reports that removal does not restore your machine to its pre-SP1 state.
Furthermore, registry changes are currently required in order to apply this Service Pack. Registry changes are always risky because any change you make takes place immediately. So, if you "break" the registry, you may not be able to reboot your machine. Be sure to back off the affected portions of the registry before applying the Service Pack changes.
To be really safe, if you are going to apply this Service Pack to a mainstream machine, do a complete OS image backup first.
