There are two kinds of backup you can configure. One for just your user
files, and one for all users. You probably created a backup for one user,
and have changed that to something else.

You may have set this drive 'for best performance' in the Properties of the
drive. This 'write caching' setting wants to have the "Safely remove
hardware" utility used on removal. I would suspect you have some problem
with that.

Dom,

See if this is applicable:

You cannot create files when alternate data streams are present on a
computer that is using the NTFS file system
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912595

It is possible that the files backed up previously did not have ADS.

that sound very logical to me, but if i am understanding correctly this is
when you are backing up files that have already been backed up. I have
formated the external hard drive and am creating a completly new backup.
